April: Midwestern Branch Show and Tell

Our guest speakers for the April meeting were members of our nearest IPS branch neighbours who meet in Limerick - The Mid Western Branch (http://midwestpatchwork.blogspot.com/). We were treated to a fantastic 'Show and Tell' from this talented group of patchworkers. So sit back and enjoy the following photos!

"Western Reflections" a heritage quilt is presented to the Galway City Museum

Thank you to Reg Gordon (www.reggordon.com), for taking these photos when members of the Western Branch of the IPS gathered at the Galway City Museum to present "Western Reflections", a heritage quilt to Breadain O Heaghaire. The quilt will now form part of the Museum's permanent collection. Following the presentation we gathered in the Cafe at the museum for delicious tea & scones.

Requirements List for workshop with Loretta O'Brien on April 9th 2011

Working from Sketch or Photo to Quilt.

  Photo / design to be A3 size, (take a suitable photo, picture or sketch and increase the size on the photocopier to A3 size)


• 
  
  A few sheets of tracing paper.


• 
  
  A sheet of A3 graph paper and an A1 sheet of graph paper. (you can always glue several sheets of A3 together to form the size of the quilt you want to make or you can use a large sheet of dressmakers squared paper)


• 
  
  Pencil


• 
  
  Rubber


• 
  
  Ruler


• 
  
  1 coloured pencil


• 
  
  A sheet or two of CLEAR template plastic. Can be had in Creative Grids UK. (you will eventually need to make a template for each piece and as you will be cutting the plastic if you want to complete the project you may need more than just one or two sheets) You could of course cut up your design cartoon


• 
  
  Scissors to cut templates (I have found a small narrow pointed one the best)


• 
  
  A bucket of patience.

This is a simple process and everyone can do it. You just need to be patient and allow yourself time to do it. This process will suit both pieced and appliquéd work. We’ll talk about fabrics etc at the workshop.

"Western Reflections" presented to Galway City Museum Thursday 7th April

On Thursday 7th April members of the Western Branch of the Irish Patchwork Society gathered in the Galway City Museum to present Breandan O'Heaghaire with "Western Reflections" a heritage quilt made by the branch for the Museum's permanent collection. Here are some of the photos on the day....for more professional photos keep watching the local papers as a photographer was present on the day to record the event. Postcards of the quilt will be available for sale at our upcoming exhibition "Branching Out" which will open at 3pm on Saturday 16th April at the Galway City Museum. The exhibition will run until the end of April.

We are having the handover of the Heritage Quilt "Western Reflections" to the Galway City Museum on Thursday next, April 7th, 2011 at 11 o’clock in the Museum. We are hoping to have the press there on that day to promote the IPS and the forthcoming exhibition. Please join us if you can.
