September Branch Meeting

It was great to see such a fantastic turnout for our first meeting back after the Summer break. The new committee are settling in already and have a great year planned for our guild. We had the pleasure of hosting Kilbora Quilt Shop, and a lovely demonstration and Show and Tell from the owner Anne Marie Hobbs, ably assisted by her daughter. We also had Paula Rafferty and her daughter visiting and showing us some of their work. It is lovely to see the joy of patchwork and quilting being passed down the generations. We had a busy Show and Tell session from our members, here are a few photos from the meeting..

Galway Heritage Festival 2014

In conjunction with National Heritage Week, Dúchas Na Gaillimhe – Galway Civic Trust, would like to invite you to our 2014 Heritage Festival. We have a varied programme of guided walks, craft demonstrations, talks and exhibitions which explore and promote the heritage of Galway.

This year we have made a special effort to ensure that all the family have some fun! We have a family tour of Renmore Military Barracks Museum and our Beach Exploration will teach us all about the shellfish and creepy crawlies that make the beach their home! Or visit the Zoology Museum, at NUI, Galway and take part in our mystery Quiz.

Come and see us at the Hall of the Red Earl to learn more about our traditional crafts with demonstrations and enjoy the sound of the harp echoing through the heart of medieval Galway.

Members of the Irish Patchwork Society, Western Branch will be giving demonstrations of how to do patchwork and quilting in the Hall of the Red Earl, opposite the Druid Theatre, on Tuesday August 26th from 10am -12 noon and from 2pm - 4pm.

In addition there will be a small exhibition of members' work.

We invite you to come along and see what we do and how we do it!"

U.S. Visitors at The Pillo Hotel

On June 8th members from the branch took part in a Show and tell with some American visitors at the Pillo Hotel. It is always lovely to link up with quilters from other parts of the world and we had a lovely afternoon with these amazing ladies. We brought a variety of pieces, bed-quilts, hangings and managed to put togethersix of the Cú na Mara panels. Thanks to Mari Moran, Bernadette Falvey, Carmel Togher, Agnes Warren,Isabelle Foyle, Margaret Cunnane, Bernadette Street, Ester Kiely who showed the pieces.

The American visitors also showed some small pieces (including some of the cutest little dolls I have ever seen!). We enjoyed a cup of tea and a chat before leaving the group to continue on their tour of Ireland. Thanks to craftours.com for inviting us and to Dana and the group for making us feel so welcome
